Introduction to 1 Thessalonians

Coming up next we will spend twelve days in the book of 1 Thessalonians. Paul wrote this letter to the young church in Thessalonica to encourage them in their faith and love for others, to give practical instruction for holy living, and to remind them of Christ’s second coming and how they were to live (not idly) as they wait for His return.   There are so many practical takeaways for our prayer time in this book!

Imagine for a minute if the following characterized your daily life as a follower of Christ. What if:

– Your life was a model to all believers
– God’s message rang out from you
– You lived to please God and not men
– Your love increased and overflowed for others
– You led a quiet life and minded your own business
– Your daily life won the respect of outsiders
– You were joyful always
– You prayed continually
– You gave thanks in all circumstances
– You avoided every kind of evil

Talk about setting the bar high! But imagine the impact your life would have on the lives of those around you who do not know Christ. What if the gospel truly rang out from your life in every area? What if you loved others so much that you were delighted to share not only the gospel, but your life with them as well? (2:8)

Above is just a tiny sample of the extremely powerful and practical things we will pray from 1 Thessalonians. Whether you are praying for yourself or another person, whether you are a new believer or a seasoned follower of Christ, these prayers could truly be life changing for those being prayed over and for those who watch the lives of those being prayed over. Join us in praying through 1 Thessalonians, and invite someone to pray with you!
